An open letter from Bradley Christian, the winner of our first E-depositry prize earlier this year. 

Hi everyone!

The GCDFund’s E-depository provides a much needed forum to highlight your current or planned projects to improve child oral health, especially if you require financial or other support.

As we began exploring potential sources of monetary support for our project, Health in Orphanages Project (HOPe), a colleague referred me to the GCDFund website. As the GCDFund is an organisation that supports oral health projects internationally I expected the process of engaging with them to be a lengthy one. To my surprise, it was exactly the opposite. The organisation’s response to queries was prompt and the process of adding our project to the E-depository site was straight forward, with support a click away if needed. 

By adding HOPe to the E-depository we now had an easy way to solicit support for the project. All we had to do was send around our project’s E-depository URL to colleagues and potential funders. The other advantage of adding your project to the E-depository is that GCDFund periodically offers awards to projects that target disadvantaged children. Our project was the recipient of such an award and this was the first funding source for the project. This auspicious start paved the way for a larger grant from the International Association for Dental Research and we now have the necessary support to start the project.

Based on my very positive experience with GCDF, I encourage anyone working on oral health issues among disadvantaged children to use this fantastic platform (GCDFund’s E-depository) to showcase their work and seek support if required.
