Professor Rahimah Abdul Kadir

A graduate of Padjadajaran University in Indonesia and two famous American Universities, Indiana University and University of Michigan, Professor Rahimah is among the pioneering group of academics in the 1970s to help build up the first dental faculty located at Malaysia’s premier university, University Malaya in Kuala Lumpur. She became Dean of the faculty in 2004 until her official retirement.  Her experience in initiating the first postgraduate dental program in University Malaya in 1995 was later transferred to help the second public university, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia initiate seven postgraduate programs between 2007-2011. She currently also holds a position as Consultant-Expert in Nicotine Addiction Research with University Malaya Centre of Addiction Sciences. A versatile writer, she has published text books, children books and general readings for newspapers, magazines and other media apart from scientific papers in her areas of expertise. Professor Rahimah, SDL member of the Global Child Dental Health Taskforce is very much involved in the Asian dental arena, travelling as far as Mongolia, China, Korea and Japan in the north to central Hong Kong, Vietnam and Thailand, India in the West as well as Singapore, Indonesia and the Australasia in the south, along the way developing a vast network of peers particularly in the areas of Preventive Dentistry and Dental Public Health. She is the first woman President of the Asian Academy of Preventive Dentistry (2008-2010), also Past President of South East Asia Association for Dental Education (SEAADE 2006-2008), initiator and Chairman of the SEAADE-GC Student Prevention Table Clinic Program (2005 to current). On the home front, she is also a Member of the Malaysian Dental Council and, member of the  Malaysian Qualifications Agency – an official tertiary education accreditation body, among other appointments. She has recently been appointed as the Chairman, ACFF Malaysia Chapter on October 2013. “The SDL programme has certainly helped me to get connected to the world”
