Dr. Lenard Smith
Dr. Smith received his Doctor of Dental Surgery from the University of Alberta in 1968. He completed a hospital residency at the Winnipeg Childrens Hospital in 1970 and earned a Masters of Science degree and Pedodontic Dentistry certification from the Ohio State University in 1972. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada, Life Fellow in the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, and a Life Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. In 2007,he founded and is the Chairman of the Board for both the Society for a Healthy Mouth Healthy Child (Alberta),and the Foundation For A Healthy Mouth, Healthy Child in Canada and the USA respectively. The stated mission is the worldwide elimination of early childhood caries. He received a special achievement award from the American Academy of Pediatrics in 2014,for distinguished service and dedication to the mission and goals of the Academy. During his 43 year career, Dr. Smith has been an advocate for oral health needs of children-this included a term as President of the Academy of Dentistry for the Handicapped 1982-83, Chief of the Dental Department at the Alberta Children’s Hospital 1974-1986 and currently is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Pediatrics in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Calgary. He is in full time private Practice.
