Dr Patel graduated with honours in dentistry from the University of WA. He is the Senior Dental Officer and a Director of the Kimberley Dental Team Ltd, a non for profit, non government organisation, established in 2009 to extend dental care and oral health education to remote communities in Western Australia. While also maintaining his work in private practice Jilen has fostered a keen interest in paediatric and public health dentistry focusing on improving oral health outcomes among disadvantaged populations. His PhD studies and research with the UWA node of The Centre of Research Excellence in Primary Oral Health Care, focuses on innovative oral health care models in remote regions of WA. Dr Patel has recently been involved in developing an oral health program for residential aged care while also operating dental services for homelessness and disadvantaged youth in metropolitan Perth. Dr Patel is currently undergoing specialist training in Paediatric Dentistry through the University of Western Australia and Princess Margaret Hospital for children. He is an honorary fellow of the Academy of Dentistry International, a member of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons and a clinical tutor at the UWA School of Dentistry.
