Dr Elison Nathaniel Simon, after qualifying as a dental surgeon from the University of Dar Es Salaam in 1986, worked as a regional dental officer in Coast Region before joining the University of Dar es Salaam to teach in the School of Dentistry in 1989. He got further training in Oral Radiology at the Academic Centre of Dentistry Amsterdam, The Netherlands. From 1995 to 1997 Dr Simon worked as a Government Dental Officer in Masvingo Zimbabwe and upon return to Tanzania registered for a PhD programme at the Radboud University Nijmegen, The Netherlands. He has devoted most of his time to teaching both Oral radiology and Oral Surgery to undergraduate and postgraduate students and research in the same fields. He has published more than forty papers in scientific journals; co authored one book and contributed one chapter in a scientific book. He has presented papers in many international conferences including the International Conference of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in Athens (2003), Shanghai (2009) and Santiago (2011). Dr Elison Simon served as head of the department of oral and maxillofacial surgery for six years before becoming the Dean of the School of Dentistry of the Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
