Dr Elifuraha G.S. Mumghamba was born in 1956 and graduated with the first degree in Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) from the University of Dar es Salaam in 1985 and later on attained a Masters degree in dentistry in 1990 which was a sandwich program between the University of Dar es Salaam and the University of Kuopio, Finland. Recently Dr Mumghamba has successfully completed a PhD program in epidemiology of periodontal diseases in Tanzania with the University of Turku, Finland. Dr Mumghamba is a Senior Lecturer in the Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS) and is Dean of the School of Dentistry in the same university. Dr Mumghamba has published about twenty papers in the field of periodontal as well as other oral health issues in Tanzania in local, regional and international journals and presented these findings in national, regional and international conferences. Dr Mumghamba has received WHO-AFRO Region, Community Health Research Award, in 1993 based on a study on “Periodontal conditions and treatment needs in Ilala district, Tanzania”. Dr Mumghamba is a member of the Tanzania Dental Association (TDA) and the International Association of Dental Research (IADR).
