Dr Conrado Barzaga

Conrado is an internationally recognized public health leader with 20 years of progressively important positions with organizations addressing public health issues. He has served in top leadership positions for the Los Angeles County Commission on Children and Families (First 5 LA), Planned Parenthood, and Sacred Heart University’s Area Health Education Center. Prior to his appointment to the CEO position with the Dental Health Foundation (now Center for Oral Health), Dr. Bárzaga directed the development and implementation of Oral Health Investments for the Los Angeles First 5 Commission and helped develop The Los Angeles Oral Health Needs Assessment of Underprivileged Children.

As a national and international public health leader and coalition builder, Dr. Bárzaga’s accomplishments include leading the Oral Health Bridgeport Initiative in Connecticut, where he co-chaired the state’s Building and Embracing a Vision for Oral Health in Connecticut Conference and co- founded The Coalition for Connecticut’s Oral Health Plan. He has been published in various public health journals and has presented at national and international conferences.

A native of Cuba, Conrado has extensive experience in philanthropy and in international advancement of public health systems, such as developing the Community Health Infrastructure with the Bolivian Ministry of Health and Doctors without Borders.  He is a Coro Fellow and earned his Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from the University of Havana in 1994.
